Business and Digital Marketing Management with Co-op

To break into the world of business, you need a combination of up-to-date training and hands-on experience. You’ll get both in the Business and Digital Marketing Management with Co-op diploma program. Whether you want to prepare for an entry role in business management or launch and run your own business, the program will give you the traditional business skills you need, and an essential understanding of social media and digital marketing.

 

For many businesses, the rapid rise of digital media communication has transformed marketing, promotion, and sales. This program will prepare you to deliver effective e-media marketing campaigns by providing you with an understanding of the latest digital and social media marketing tools and analytics. To solidify your new knowledge and skills, you’ll also get to apply what you’ve learned by immersing yourself in a 560-hour co-operative placement in a real-world business environment.

 

Admission Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent* OR mature student status**.
     

*From an English language teaching institution.
**19 years of age upon starting classes, and pass college's admissions test.

 

This program has been approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. The program is combined delivery, meaning you will take both online and in-person courses.

Program Courses
SSS4 / Student Success Strategies

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and study techniques to help foster effective learning and a positive educational experience. This course explores many different theories on learning and studying and how these theories can be applied to each student’s individual studying methods in order to develop a method that is both effective and efficient. Effective study habits and productive note-taking are key topics in this course, as well as the importance of values and goals. Through active participation in learner-centred activities, students will explore and practice strategies for setting personal goals, prioritizing tasks, managing time, and managing the stress that arises in school or work situations. This course will also equip students with a sound understanding of matters related to finance, credit, and debt and the critical implications they have on our lives. Students taking this course will complete the Enriched Academy program, which provides comprehensive coverage of financial and money management skills that will allow them to better save, budget, and manage their money and financial situations.

BCA4 / Business Computer Applications
The first component of this course is designed to introduce students to basic computer literacy through familiarization with the components that make up a computer. Students will also look at the Windows operating system to learn how to manage a computer on a regular basis. The second component of this course will teach the basic skills required to work with a variety of business documents including the following MS Office Products Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The third and final component is designed to introduce students to considerations for living online. Students will look at what the Internet is and how email has made a huge impact on communicating with others, as well as look at how to find information on the Internet and avoid risk to personal security while online.
EBW4 / Effective Business Writing
The workplace of the twenty-first century demands excellent communications skills. The focus of this course is on learning writing techniques that ensure effective business communication.
MKT4 / Marketing

Students are provided an introduction to marketing practices focusing on problem definition and solution. Topics will include marketing concepts, marketing strategies, and buyer behaviour. The product promotion, distribution, pricing and public relations model are emphasized.
 

BMT4 / Business Math

An introduction to the fundamental principles and concepts of business mathematics. Students will be shown how to apply these principles and concepts to solve practical business problems in regards to marketing and finance.

BESO / Business Essentials

Business Essentials provides an overview of business management today, including forms of ownership and the ways managers carry out their basic management functions in a skillful and inventive way. Subjects covered include, setting up a business in Canada, history of business in Canada, types of business organizations, managing the business enterprise, setting business goals, formulating strategy, management process, planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, types and areas of managers, management skills, motivating and leading employees, job satisfaction, motivation, data communication networks, transaction processing systems, and management information systems.
 

AFA4 / Bookkeeping and Financial Accounting Level I

This module is intended to provide students with a general background of the fundamentals of accounting as a means to understand the daily transaction procedures that exist in business. Students are introduced to double entry bookkeeping including debits and credits, assets, liabilities, equities, journalizing transactions, posting of accounts to ledgers and preparing a trial balance. Students are also introduced to financial statements and to adjusting and closing accounts.

PMG4 / Project Management

Project management has become essential in all areas of modern organizations. This course will develop the core set of technical and managerial skills needed to successfully perform all the steps needed in managing a project. The objective of this course is to explore both the technical and social components of project management. The first half of the course introduces students to the fundamentals of project management, while the latter half provides an opportunity to apply these fundamentals in the analysis of case examples and in-depth exploration of project management issues. As such, the course provides an equal blend of lecture-based and experiential learning opportunities.

HRE4 / Human Resources
Employees are the most valuable asset of a business and all aspects from hiring to performance appraisal are examined utilizing the case study approach.
IMISY / Introduction to Management Information Systems

Information and data are the fuel that drive businesses today. Managing, protecting, accessing and analyzing information in a timely manner is the cornerstone of a company’s decision making processes leading to intelligent business decisions. This course provides an overview of the various information systems that are essential parts of business processes in today’s global business landscape. The course starts with an exploration of general information systems and resources such as computer systems, database systems, data warehousing and the personal, legal and ethical issues that surround information systems. Students will learn about the various systems that support data communication, ecommerce, cloud computing and global information systems in a connected world. Finally, the course will explore enterprise level management information systems that support an organization’s various activities.

MNGMT / Fundamentals of Management

This course aims to build upon the student’s fundamental knowledge of business in general with a particular focus on management. Students will explore the management skills that are essential in today’s business environments. Students will explore the role of management in areas of planning, organizing, leading and controlling processes. The course will explore topics in management in small, medium and large enterprises, planning and strategic management, operations management, human resources management, leadership, motivating employees, working with groups and teams and managing innovation and change.  
 

STWBD / Strategic Web Design

In this course students will be able to create a search engine-friendly website. Students will be introduced to the website planning process, and discover the web design tools, principles and strategies that will allow them to design create and publish a fully functional web site. Students will become familiar with web hosting principles and integrate social media effectively on their websites. Topics include publishing fundamentals, graphic design principles and the creative aspect of web design, website security and analytics, Integration of e-commerce components such as shopping carts, Customer Relationship Management and loyalty programs. Finally, students will learn to integrate multimedia, online advertising and streaming channels to their websites.

DGMKF / Digital Marketing Fundamentals

In this course students will the key concepts of digital marketing. The course will explore the importance of branding, audience reach and demographics in the marketing strategies. Students will learn how to utilize analytics and the importance of goals as part of the marketing processes. The course will explore the importance of domain names, keywords and how to leverage Search Engine Optimization strategies. Pay-per-click, online marketing, email marketing, and budgeting are also discussed within the context of this course.

SMMKS / Social Media Marketing Strategies

After completing this course, students will be well-versed in how to use the right social media platform(s) and how to best utilize the features offered by each platform to enable them to help corporations to reach their target audience and achieve their goals. Seven channels are examined in-depth: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Yelp, and Pinterest. For each of the channels, the course will explore the following aspects: the channel’s history, the user’s experience, the business’ experience, advertising, running a targeted campaign, and analytics.

BDM100 / Business and Digital Marketing Management Practicum

Students will be placed in actual work places related to their field of study and will be expected to act as a regular employee in order to gain the valuable real world experience that so many employers seek. Students are encouraged to find their own work experience placement; however, once placed, continuation in that placement is mandatory. 

CES4 / Career and Employment Strategies

This course builds on the skills learned in the Student Success Strategies course or its equivalent. It provides information on how to use the communication skills learned in order to make a successful presentation to a prospective employer. Students also learn how to uncover the hidden job market and identifyemployment opportunities. Self-assessment during this course allows students to identify their personal skills that are transferable to the work place and to describe these skills to a prospective employer. Students may be videotaped during a mock interview and will participate in the analysis of their performance in the “interview”.

BDMCP / Business and Digital Marketing Management Co- op

A co-operative (co-op) placement is designed to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the academic component of the program into relevant work experience. During the co-op, students will be considered employees who are actively engaged in productive work for the duration of the co-op session. The co-op experience will provide students with coaching and mentoring, work-site monitoring and employer evaluations. This workplace exposure will benefit the students by providing a deeper real-time insight to the current trends in the industry, allowing them to explore their different career opportunities, and observe professionals in practical work situations. Students will continue to strengthen their experience by acquiring situation-specific skills and identifying areas that may need to be developed further. The institution will monitor both the student and the employer throughout the co-op session to ensure that the experience is beneficial to all stakeholders. At the conclusion of the co-op, a written evaluation of the student’s performance will be completed.
