At the beginning of the 2021 holiday season, Vancouver Career College reached out to students and faculty to help support Canadian food banks, and donate non-perishable food items across our campuses in BC. This year, the food drive was led by the message, “Give What You Can, Take What You Need”.
Over the course of the campaign our students and faculty donated hundreds of non-perishable food items and helped make the holidays a little brighter for individuals and families across BC.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of Canadians lack access to fresh, quality food. Food banks in Canada are under constant struggle to assist people living with food insecurities across the country, many of whom are children.
While the holiday season is a popular time to donate, food banks are looking for support year-round. If you’d like to make a donation, here are items that are in-demand:
- Pasta (canned or dry) and pasta sauces
- Canned meats and fish
- Meat alternatives – peanut butter, soy, and assorted nuts
- Canned goods – beans, soups, and stews
- Canned vegetables and fruit
- Whole grain cereals
- Infant foods and baby formula
- Bathroom tissue and diapers
- Personal hygiene products
- Financial donations to help food banks buy fresh foods, including milk, proteins, and produce
