In the spring of 2016, owners Darin and Gabby opened Boardwalk Cafe & Games. Located in the historic heart of downtown Abbotsford, this local business is the first board game cafe in the Fraser Valley. The business created a place that could inspire the community to have face-to-face gatherings through tabletop games and locally sourced food and drinks.
In addition to creating a space that encourages friendly collaboration and competition, Darin and Gabby have also put together a team of board game enthusiasts to ensure that every guest has a brilliant experience. From their well-crafted coffees and teas, to locally sourced meats and cheese, their team will take care of everything you need.
"Boardwalk Cafe and Games is all about gathering with family and friends. With over 500 tabletop games to play, we see families out for a game night and friends meeting up after work to enjoy a few drinks and snacks. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we were dramatically affected. Not only were we impacted with general closures, we also suffered from a lowered capacity and restrictions on events and group sizes," says Darin and Gabby.
In the midst of the global pandemic, Boardwalk Cafe & Games was working on relocating to the downtown area of Abbotsford. The pandemic forced Darin and Gabby to change their business model.
"We offered online sales with local free delivery, board game rentals, crowdfunding, and more so that we could continue to operate and survive," says Darin.
Boardwalk Cafe & Games is extremely fortunate to have their community to support their business' survival. They're also excited that restrictions are easing up in the province, and they look forward to being busy again.
Boardwalk Cafe & Games is giving back to the community and offering a free hot or cold coffee beverage to anyone who comes in and shows them the original #SupportingBC Business of The Week post from one of our social channels, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Don't forget to show them some love on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
