With the right training, you can gain the skills and knowledge to fill this role on a healthcare team. As a medical office assistant, or MOA, you will be valued for your blend of interpersonal and administrative skills.

Your attention to detail and knack for being organized will enable you to make a big contribution in a doctor’s office, dental office, hospital, medical clinic, or other healthcare setting.

Working independently and with colleagues, you’ll be ready to handle a range of duties, from booking appointments and helping patients with forms, to keeping medical files in order and ensuring office procedures are followed.

How do you get started? Vancouver Career College’s Medical Office Assistant diploma program will give you the relevant skills you need to get hired for a role like this in BC.

The 36-week program will teach you everything you need to know about essential administrative skills including billing, keyboarding, managing health records, and medical transcription.

You’ll also take courses that cover key topics such as anatomy, medical terminology, clinical procedures, and more.

To ensure you receive the quality, one-on-one attention you need, you’ll study in small classes with industry-experienced instructors.

To solidify your new skills and knowledge, you’ll also complete a valuable seven-week practicum placement in a real-world medical office setting.

Along the way, you’ll also earn certifications including First Aid and CPR, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, or WHMIS.

Once you graduate, you’ll be prepared for a variety of administrative roles in the healthcare field.
