Hands-on training program opens doors to plumbing apprenticeship in 29 weeks

Surrey, BC – March 24, 2014 - According to Work BC, rapid construction activity continues to fuel the demand for plumbing work throughout the province, especially in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Southern Vancouver Island and the Okanagan regions. While the majority of projects involve residential construction and renovations, commercial, institutional and industrial projects will also be an important job supply for plumbers. Vancouver Career College is now offering a 29-week Plumber Foundation program in Surrey to prepare students interested in pursuing a plumbing apprenticeship.

“With 400,000 jobs predicted to open up by 2020 in British Columbia, it’s a great time to start training for a skilled trade,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for Vancouver Career College. “The Plumber Foundation program provides the practical training that will get you started on the path to a career as a plumber.”

The Plumber Foundation program provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to for a plumbing apprenticeship. Training with industry-experienced instructors, students learn about oxyacetylene equipment, plumbing valves and working with a range of piping and tubing, including plastic, iron and cast iron. They also learn to read and interpret drawings, and create a fully-functional plumbing system from the ground up.

Along with learning the theoretical elements of plumbing, students have hands-on learning opportunities in the plumbing lab on campus. They also gain first-hand experience during a 150 hour field study, working alongside a plumber on the job.

Graduates are prepared to seek out apprenticeships as well as other plumbing-related jobs.

Vancouver Career College is now accepting applications for the Plumber Foundation program at its campus in Surrey. For more information, call 1.877.607.7819 or visit vccollege.ca.
