Canadian Blood Services’ Holiday Miracle campaign comes to Burnaby campus

Burnaby, BC – December 9, 2013 – Staff and students at Vancouver Career College in Burnaby want to help Canadian Blood Services make a difference over the upcoming holiday season. The campus will contribute to the Holiday Miracle campaign by holding a blood drive on December 12, 2013.

“Vancouver Career College is proud to be an active part of the community and our staff and students always want to make a difference wherever they can,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for Vancouver Career College. “By supporting Canadian Blood Services, staff and students have a chance to truly have a positive impact on someone’s life, especially at this time of year.”

According to Canadian Blood Services, every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood. But, collecting blood over the holiday season becomes even more challenging as donors go away or are busy with family activities. Making donations before and immediately after the holiday season is a great way to ensure that hospitals have an adequate supply of blood for their patients.

Collectively, blood donation makes a positive impact on someone’s life, but it takes many donors to help save a patient’s life. Someone undergoing cancer treatment needs up to five units of blood, while a victim of a car accident can use up to 50 units.

The Vancouver Career College blood drive takes place from 1:00-3:45pm on Thursday, December 12th at the Burnaby campus. Transportation will be available from the campus for those who wish to make a blood donation. To find out how you can participate, speak to your campus director.
