New programs provide hands-on training for careers in the spa industry
Burnaby, BC – March 14, 2013 – Vancouver Career College is now offering Spa Practitioner and Esthetician programs at its campus in
Burnaby. The programs will provide the practical training students need to work in the growing spa industry.
“As more people turn to health centres, salons and day spas to reduce stress and feel younger, the market for
well-trained estheticians and spa practitioners will continue to grow,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for Vancouver Career College.
The
Spa Practitioner program was designed to prepare students to meet needs of the North American spa industry. Students learn about structural anatomy and a range of conditions that spa practitioners encounter on the job. They also cover a number of therapeutic treatments including
hot stone therapy,
hydrotherapy,
aromatherapy, Swedish massage, acupressure, reflexology and more.
Students in the
Esthetician program learn fundamental and advanced esthetic techniques, such as skin care, nail care, makeup application and hair removal. They also learn to promote relaxation using a range of techniques, such as
Swedish massage,
Chinese massage/Tuina and aromatherapy. Product knowledge, documentation and consultation are also covered.
Students in both programs will also gain
hands-on experience with real clients while working in the on-site spa therapy clinic.
