Vancouver, BC – April 25, 2012 – For the fifth straight year, a Vancouver Career College graduate has placed among the top payroll certification graduates in the Canadian Payroll Association’s (CPA) Pacific Region. Jo Ann Bas, an Accounting and Payroll Administrator grad from the Surrey campus, was one of three people recognized at this year’s CPA certification luncheon.
"I have a degree in accounting from the Philippines so it was natural for me to update my education where I already have a strong background,” says Bas. "I never expected to win an award. It’s awesome! I was already happy that I’d passed the exams.”
Ms. Bas joins the long list of Vancouver Career College alumni who have achieved CPA awards in the past five years. In 2011, Gurjeet Dhillon, Loren Park and Jaffer Ali Hirani earned the gold, silver and bronze awards respectively for the Pacific Region. Ms. Dhillon also received the National Silver Award. Other recipients include 2010 National Gold Award winner Jing Liang, 2010 National Bronze Award winner Suba Thirumeni Govindarajan, 2009 Gold Award winner Ved Pareek, 2009 Silver Award winner Bala Chemen and 2008 Silver Award winner Ruby Zhang.
Ms. Bas and two other award winners were recognized at the CPA’s certification recognition luncheon for the Pacific Region on April 18, 2012 at the Four Seasons in Vancouver, BC. Adding to the excitement of the day, it was revealed that all three had earned national awards as well, which wouldn’t be announced until the CPA’s Annual Conference and Trade Show in Ottawa, Ontario from July 2-5, 2012. Like the other winners, Ms. Bas has been invited to attend and accept a national award for earning one of the highest marks nationwide in the CPA certification program.
