British Columbia's second biggest city, Surrey is just a short SkyTrain ride from Vancouver and a bustling city in its own right. Surrey is home to frequent festivals, parades, rodeos and concerts, as well as parks and beaches. It truly is a place that has something for everyone.
Surrey has more than 5000 acres of parkland and is known as "The City of Parks". No matter what your outdoorsy pursuit - horseback riding, mountain biking, boating, or hiking - there's a Surrey park that caters to you. Bear Creek Park has walking trails, a running track, skateboarding park, and great picnic facilities for large groups. For beautifully manicured gardens, check out the gardens and fountains at Holland Park. Green Timbers Urban Forest is a great spot for fishing, and head over to the South Surrey Bike Park for a day of cycling.
Surrey's beachfront is a lovely place to spend an afternoon. Enjoy Crescent Beach's seaside cafes and restaurants and then take a walk on the Ocean Park Shoreline Walk. If you're looking to take your beach day indoors, there's no better place than the Newton Wave Pool.
Surrey has plenty of options for sports fans. Golfers will love the city's multiple major golf courses, including Northview Golf and Country Club and Morgan Creek Golf Course. Hockey fans can check out Surrey's Junior A Hockey Club, the Surrey Eagles. Spectators and players both enjoy a day out at Softball City, Surrey's huge baseball park.
Surrey's Bell Centre for Performing Arts, Surrey Arts Centre, Surrey Civic Theatre, and Surrey Little Theatre are all great places to catch a play, concert, or dance performance. The Surrey Art Gallery is a great place to check out contemporary art by local and national artists.
Surrey hosts a wide variety of parades, festivals, and events throughout the year. The annual Cloverdale Rodeo is Canada's second largest rodeo after the Calgary Stampede. Each April, the Vaisakhi Parade is held to celebrate Sikh faith and heritage and is attended by thousands of people. On July 1st, head to the Cloverdale Amphitheatre for the BC's largest Canada Day party.
